These are foods that you should not feed to your dog. It is not completely exhaustive, so if you get something weird from the grocery store, please do Google it before you feed it to your dog.
Dangerous—seek veterinary help if ingested
- Chocolate
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Artificial sweeteners
- Yeasted dough
- Macadamia nuts
- Grapes and raisins
- Pits from stone fruits (peaches, plums, apricots)
- Persimmons
- Mushrooms
- Corn cobs
Potentially dangerous—monitor your dog for signs of illness
- Onion, garlic and other plants in the allium family
- Apple seeds
- Raw salmon and trout
- Some spices, like nutmeg
- Avocado
- Fat trimmings
Dogs should not eat foods with very high salt or sugar content. Remember, they’re a lot smaller than a your average human, so their tolerance levels are lower too.
